Be one of the very few people on this planet to say that you’ve dined with reindeer under an Alaskan winter night sky. If the cosmos align, it might be under the aurora borealis (a.k.a. the northern lights), with a milky way backdrop, or under a gentle snow. This one-of-a-kind, truly Alaskan experience includes a hearty northern meal (chile [reindeer or vegetarian], sourdough flatbread, and baked potato, with s’mores as a dessert) cooked on an open fire, and bottomless warm beverages to stay toasty. If Jack Frost ever becomes too much, our unique and artistic lodge is the perfect place to warm back up and learn about this eccentric cabin that began as a saloon in the early 1980’s. All this is done with our 4 resident reindeer accompanying us along the way, which you’ll help feed. Reindeer gotta eat too! This experience is unforgettable and will be sure to leave you entertained, educated, and well fed.

As you enter The Reindeer Grove Lodge, you’ll be introduced to your hosts and hear the history of the eccentric cabin starting with its inception as a saloon in the early 1980s, and the story of how they became reindeer farmers. You’ll then make your way out back to the campfire that is located inside the reindeer pen, where you’ll meet and interact with (feeding and petting) the reindeer, and also sit down to a hearty meal of chile (with reindeer or not), potato, sourdough flatbread, and a s’mores desert (if there’s still room!). All the while, you’ll learn all about what make reindeer so interesting, how they are as farm animals in the subarctic, their history with Alaskans and other parts of the world, other stories of reindeer lore, and much more. Depending on the night sky, you may be able to view the aurora borealis (a.k.a. the northern lights), stars, constellations, the milky way, and other celestial curiosities. The setting is both illuminating and tranquil and you’ll walk away from this experience with unforgettable memories and stories all your own.
